“The Amazing Spider-Man” (2012) – Sally Field’s Amazing Spider-Man Reboot

Director: Marc Webb

Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Sally Field

‘Spectacular Reboot’

“The Amazing Spider-Man” is directed by Marc Webb. Its script is written by James Vanderbilt, Alvin Sargent, and Steve Kloves; its based off Marvel comic books by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. This film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. Its plot follows Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), who finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents abondoned him when he was young. His path puts him on a collision with his father’s former partner, Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans). “The Amazing Spider-Man” is a reboot of 2002’s highly successful “Spider-Man”.

Marc Webb has a vast knowledge of the spider-man comic books. Along with a devoted crew, he has created a well-crafted film that explores the origin and personality of spider-man. Webb directs this movie using a fine script, impressive visual effects, and dazzling cinematography. Firstly, the screenplay has a strong impact on this film. It enhances the movie by providing surprising emotional depth and clever dialogue. Characterization is one thing that’s very strong most of the time in this film. The visual effects are stunning; they gradually blend in with the magnificent cinematography. John Schwartzman has done a flawless job of mixing vibrant and bright colors for the cinematography.  James Horner’s score is beautiful and engaging. It really enhances this film to a higher level.

Andrew Garfield delivers a fantastic performance as Peter Parker. Thanks to the superior script, his character is fully  fleshed out and highly interesting. Garfield captures Parker’s personality and intentions with ease. He is a rising star  and his acting abilities are fully shown. Emma Stone is very good as Gwen Stacy. Not only is she nice-looking, but she  also has wonderful screen chemistry with Andrew Garfield. The rest of the cast including Martin Sheen and Sally Field is  top-notch.

Despite having many merits, this film isn’t perfect. A long running time and a dull villain worsen it. The running time, which is over 2 hours, doesn’t suit this film in any way. After the first half, this movie gradually becomes very slow. This causes bad pacing. Rhys Ifans is superb as Curt Connors (the villain), but his character is so poorly developed that he is not a major part of this movie. Nevertheless, this is a fine superhero film. It isn’t as good as Sam Raimi’s first two spider-man films, but it definitely is an improvement on the third. A good return to form for a fascinating superhero; this is recommended for all blockbuster fans.
