Packed with breathtaking production-design, engaging storytelling and phenomenal acting, it’s one of the best courtroom films ever made. At the centre of it all is an extraordinary performance by Marisa Tomei, who portrays a woman seeking to solve a courtroom case that has a price to pay. Ultimately, what makes “My Cousin Vinny” a masterpiece is its message. It delivers a meaningful message about value of justice which would resonate with everyone. A mesmerizing masterpiece about a frightening courtroom case, there are countless reasons why “My Cousin Vinny” is a movie that is worth watching.

Set in 1980’s Brooklyn, “My Cousin Vinny” tells the story of a lawyer that seeks to defend his cousins in a case of murder causing tragedy. Joe Pesci portrays Vinny Gambini, a powerful lawyer with an aptitude for winning courtroom cases. Vinny has always excelled at resolving courtroom cases requiring an intense degree of concentration. However, Vinny’s life forever changes when he’s given the task of defending his cousin in a grim case of murder. Assisted by longtime girlfriend Mona Lisa Vito (Marisa Tomei), Vinny strives to resolve a dangerous case causing trauma. Faced with a dilemma, Vinny questions whether he would be able to resolve a painful case in America. As all odds are stacked against his favour, Vinny wonders whether he will ever be a successful lawyer. Jonathan Lynn is a newcomer toward themes of courtroom movies. Before he directed “My Cousin Vinny”, Lynn had never made a movie about courtroom cases in his career before. Lynn was known for producing movies in the comedy genre. His iconic film “Clue” offered engaging depiction of murder mysteries that entail a clue. With “My Cousin Vinny”, however, he made his first ever courtroom drama. One appreciates dramatic monologues capturing tensions that lawyers in stressful scenario are experiencing. Dramatic monologues are tricky techniques to use in films. As Gil Junger’s “10 Things I Hate About You” suggested, dramatic monologues elevate films about high school. Nevertheless, it works immensely in this movie. Through an engaging screenplay, Lynn captures lawyers facing a price to pay.

One appreciates amazing performances.

Marisa Tomei delivers one of her best career performances as Mona Lisa Vito. Tomei first achieved appreciation for playing conflicted women in serious dramas. With “My Cousin Vinny”, however, she took on her most tough role. It isn’t simple to portray a woman which becomes involved in a tense courtroom case, but she succeeds. This is the actress unlike you have ever seen him before: charismatic, emotional and funny in her most memorable role. It’s a role which gave the actress a rare chance to showcase aptitude for comedy she hadn’t shown in her career before. With bold expressions, she captures the angst, grief and desperation of a woman that becomes victim of a courtroom case. It’s a bold performance from one of the most iconic actresses today.

Joe Pesci is phenomenal as a lawyer that’s determined to win a courtroom case which causes disaster. Pesci has established an image of being a star that thrives playing gangsters facing damage. With “My Cousin Vinny”, however, he took on the most comic role of his career. As Vinny, Pesci showcased strong aptitude for comedy that audiences hadn’t seen before in his career. Whether he’s arguing with his wife over his responsibilities or seeking to fight courtroom cases which prove frightening, Pesci successfully uses his body language to create a character which proves compelling. It’s a fantastic performance from one of the greatest actors working in the film industry today.

Finally, “My Cousin Vinny” would earn praise of everyone for capturing the lives of lawyers that face tragedy. Unlike most courtroom dramas, it tackles universal themes that everyone will relate to. It discusses strong themes including anxiety, marriage and identity which resonate with everyone. Viewers aren’t required to be familiar with courtroom cases to appreciate it. It delivers a strong message about identity that will resonate with everyone. Therefore, “My Cousin Vinny” is one of those rare legal dramas about commemorated themes that everyone will adore.
