“Batman Begins” (2005) – Michael Caine’s Breathtaking Batman Beginning

Writer/Director: Christopher Nolan

Starring: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson

‘Breathtaking Blockbuster’

“Batman Begins” is directed by Christopher Nolan. Its screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. This film stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, and Cillian Murphy. Its plot follows the origin story of Batman. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) loses his parents to a senseless crime and years later, becomes the Batman to save Gotham City, which is on the verge of destruction.

Christopher Nolan has created a terrific origin story and defined one of the most popular superheroes. Because it features an exceptional cast, great direction, impressive visual effects, and a magnificent score, this film is worth watching. Nolan directs it using a beautifully crafted screenplay and stunning cinematography. Along with David S. Goyer, he produces a partly original screenplay that resonates deeply in character development. Nolan pays much more attention to characters than the grand-scale action sequences. Like almost all of his films, this one is grounded in reality. Wally Pfister’s cinematography perfectly fits the tone of this film, which is dark and gritty. The visual effects evident in this movie are impressive and well-done. Even the score by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard is praiseworthy.

Christian Bale delivers a fantastic performance as Bruce Wayne. This was the first time Bale donned the suit of the caped crusader, but he pulled it off with ease. Bale captures the emotionally torn side of the character as well as the functional one. Michael Caine is flawlessly cast as Alfred. He’s only a supporting character, yet he’s so graceful and admirable. The rest of the cast including Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy, and Gary Oldman is top-notch.

As for problems with this film, there is a minor one. Katie Holmes isn’t entirely convincing as Rachel Dawes, making her a bad casting choice for the specific character. Otherwise, this is a brilliant film that’s worth watching for any fan of the superhero.

Nearly 90 years following the creation of the caped crusader, it’s a brilliant beginning of a franchise introducing an iconic superhero towards a brand-new generation of movie-goers that forever changed the face of pop culture.
