Not many actors are worth as much as Chris Hemsworth. Since the 1990’s, Hemsworth has become a beloved icon. Whether it’s race car drivers, furious road warriors or demi-gods with hammers, Hemsworth has portrayed many characters. Given the sheer number of movies that he has made, making a top 10 list isn’t easy. Nevertheless, listed below are my favourite films made by an actor that deserves to be celebrated.

1. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Mad Max is a magnificent franchise that shaped my grandfather’s identity. I fondly recall with nostalgia joyous memories of a grandpa appreciating Furiosa. A huge fan of Mel Gibson, he would always praise movies that he regarded with affection. He always spoke fondly about movies capturing courageous road warriors seeking to survive on planets facing catastrophe. Through his lifelong love of Mad Max, my grandfather inspired me to make film criticism dreams come true. In 2024, Chris Hemsworth honoured the franchise about road warriors facing trauma in his movie “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”. In the most villainous role of his career, Hemsworth portrays a mad emperor seeking control over a dystopian land causing despair. This is the actor unlike you’ve ever seen him before: intense, charismatic and emotional in his most memorable role. Hemsworth has spent most of his career playing honourable heroes with sympathetic personalities. With “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga”, however, the actor showcased a villainous side to himsef that audiences hadn’t seen before. It’s a physically demanding role that required an intense degree of commitment but Hemsworth succeeded tremendously. Working alongside Anya Taylor-Joy who is also amazing, Hemsworth honoured a franchise about road warriors that are inspiring. For instance, the scene in which Dementus murders Furiosa’s mother as she is forced to watch causing despair is one of the greatest moments of the actor’s career. Ultimately, what makes “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” Hemsworth’s best movie is its universal appeal. Unlike most Mad Max movies which are targeted towards a specific audience, it tackles strong themes that would resonate with everyone. It delivers a profound message about childhood trauma which everyone would relate to. A magnificent reboot of a commemorated science-fiction franchise about maddening emperors which experience a dilemma, it’s a marvellous reminder of an actor with charisma that has manufactured films which are definitely worth seeing in the Cinema.

2. Rush
Race car driving is an activity I’ve never found engaging. At an early age, I became afraid of go karting causing emotional damage. I would experience a sense of terror whenever I had to get behind the wheel. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t understand appeal of an activity in which drivers died. As someone that’s never taken an interest in race cars with a rush, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed “Rush”. Released in 2013, Chris Hemsworth’s movie captured the real-life rivalry between two race car drivers causing catastrophe. In the most energetic role of his career, Hemsworth portrays a race car driver in a rivalry with co-workers causing despair. It’s a physically demanding role that required the actor to perform racing scenes, but Hemsworth succeeded. Working alongside Daniel Bruhl who is also amazing, Hemsworth created a race car driver that’s compelling. For instance, the scene in which James Hunt first meets Niki Lauda sparking their lifelong rivalry causing despair is one of the finest moments of the actor’s career. Ultimately, what makes “Rush” a classic is its message. The film delivers a meaningful message about competition which would resonate with everyone. As strong as James Hunt’s desire to win every race, it’s a breathtaking reminder of an actor that has produced memorable movies which audiences embrace.

The Avengers is a spectacular superhero team that always impressed by teacher. I remember a high school teacher that appreciated an iconic team in popular culture. A huge comic-book nerd, he adored heroes that made him feel heard. His classroom was often decorated with posters of a superhero team that he deeply appreciated. In 2019, Chris Hemsworth brought the superhero team’s journey to a satisfying endgame in his movie “Avengers: Endgame”. In the most emotional role of his career, Hemsworth embodied a superhero facing despair. Hemsworth has excelled at playing Thor throughout the MCU’s trajectory of movies. With “Avengers: Endgame”, however, the actor brought vulnerability to the hero audiences hadn’t seen before. For instance, the scene in which the Hulk is shocked to discover that Thor has become fat causing despair is one of the finest moments of the actor’s career. Ultimately, what makes “Avengers: Endgame” a comic-book classic is its appeal. Unlike most Marvel movies, it tackles commemorated themes that everyone would relate to. In the most tragic role of his career, Hemsworth embodies a doomed passenger on a spaceship that is killed causing despair. Hemsworth has always had an aptitude for stealing the show in supporting roles in movies, and “Star Trek” showcased his strengths as an actor. Despite appearing for a brief scene, Hemsworth left a strong impression. For instance, the scene in which James sacrifices his life on the spaceship causing despair is one of the finest moments of the actor’s career. Ultimately, what makes “Star Trek” a masterpiece is its appeal. Unlike most Star Trek movies targeted towards fans, it tackles universal themes everyone would relate to. A spectacular tribute towards a sci-fi series about galaxies that terrify, it’s a sensational reminder of an actor that has made movies which always satisfy.

6. Bad Times at the El Royale
A common criticism often levelled against Chris Hemsworth is that he doesn’t take risks as an actor. Following the success of “Thor”, Hemsworth has often been typecast as action heroes. This has left little room for surprises. However, in 2018 the actor took audiences by surprise when he made his film “Bad Times at the El Royale”. In the most eccentric role of his career, Hemsworth embodied the leader of a dangerous cult committing crimes causing despair. It’s a role that gave the actor an opportunity to step out of his comfort zone by playing a complex cult leader. Hemsworth proved he could excel playing complicated characters that aren’t action heroes. As precious as the El Royale hotel, it’s a powerful reminder of an actor with compelling stories to tell that has made memorable movies casting a magical spell.

7. The Cabin in the Woods
Over the past decade, the horror movie genre has declined in quality. With their cheap jump scares, nonsensical storytelling and lacklustre acting, most horror movies have become a chore to sit through. In a genre that no longer offers the goods, it’s worth praising “The Cabin in the Woods”. Released in 2011, Chris Hemsworth’s movie offered a unique take on the horror genre. 10. Thor: Love and Thunder
Chris Hemsworth hasn’t always made great movies achieving appreciation. While most movies the actor has made have been appreciated, a few have left audiences disappointed. Unfortunately, “Thor: Love and Thunder” falls into the latter category. Released in 2022, Taika Waititi’s comic-book blockbuster was a disaster. In the most shallow role of his career, Hemsworth embodies a god facing despair. Hemsworth brought his usual charisma to the role of Thor, standing out as the bright spot of a bad movie. Although “Thor: Love and Thunder” is a disastrous movie, it honoured Hemsworth’s legacy. As strong as Thor’s desire to defeat the God Butcher, it’s a riveting reminder of an actor that has built a lasting legacy making commemorated movies I will forever treasure for inspiring me to accomplish dreams of becoming a writer.
