“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” (1984) – Harrison Ford’s Spectacular Indiana Jones Sequel

Director: Steven Spielberg

Writers: Willard Huck and Gloria Katz

Starring: Harrison Ford, Jonathan Ke Quan, Amrish Puri

‘Spectacular Sequel’

“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” is directed by Steven Spielberg. Its screenplay is written by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz; based off the story by George Lucas. It stars Harrison Ford, Kate Capshaw, Jonathan Ke Quan, and Amrish Puri. The plot follows Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), who upon arrival in India, is asked by a desperate village to find a mystical stone. He agrees, but stumbles upon a secret cult plotting a terrible plan in the catacombs of an ancient palace. “The Temple of Doom” is the sequel to 1981’s classic “Raiders of the Lost Ark”.

Steven Spielberg directs this film magnificently with a solid cast, brilliant cinematography, and great visual effects. He leads this film in a darker and different way than “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. This is a very violent film, but its still entertaining. Cinematography is brilliant, matching the tone of this film. Each shot is detailed and full of character. This plays a huge supporting role to the stunning visual effects. The effects are very well handled and enhance this film to a higher level.

Harrison Ford is as always great as Indiana Jones. Ford has developed more into his character since the last film and does a splendid job. While Ford remained the main highlight of “Raiders”, in contrast, he is this time supported by a great cast. Kate Capshaw is charming as Willie and provides undeniable comic relief. Jonathan Ke Quan gives a fine performance as “Short Round”. Ke Quan also delivers highly comical lines in this film. Amrish Puri is terrific as the villain Mola Ram, doing proper justice to his role. The rest of the cast including Roshan Seth, Ric Young, and Dan Aykroyd is good.

“The Temple of Doom” is a brilliant sequel to one of the greatest films ever made. It can be silly and nonsensical at times, but otherwise it is worth watching, just for the entertainment. Recommended for any adventure movie fan.
