Director: Rupert Sanders

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron

‘Enjoyable Entertainment’

“Snow White and the Huntsman” is directed by Rupert Sanders. Its script is written by Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock, and Hossein Amini. This film stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin, and Ian McShane. Its plot adds a twist to the fairytale; the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth), who is ordered to take Snow White (Kristen Stewart) into the woods to be killed ends up becoming her protector in a quest to defeat the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron).

Rupert Sanders’ directorial debut is a visually astounding, but unevenly scripted motion picture. This is a dark and very violent re-telling of the fairy tale. Sanders directs it using a great cast, wonderful sets, magnificent costume design, and amazing visual effects. The sets and costume design match the tone and essence of this film. From a visual perspective, this is a pleasure to watch. The visual effects are unexpectedly absorbing and sufficient. Even the soundtrack for this movie is refined. It’s grand and epic; similar to the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy music.

Kristen Stewart delivers a passable performance as Snow White. She’s beautiful but she just doesn’t have an interesting personality. This could be due to the fact that her character’s very poorly developed. Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are fantastic and the real standouts in the cast. Hemsworth captures the true personality of the Huntsman. His character is the most likable in the cast. Charlize Theron is deliciously charismatic and dramatic as the Evil Queen. She has tremendous screen presence; proving that nobody else could have played her role. The rest of the cast including Sam Claflin and Ian McShane is fine.

Despite having several merits, “Snow White and the Huntsman” is not without its flaws. The script is all over the place and at times even confused in which direction it wants the plot to take. The story is also predictable. Everyone has an idea of what’s going to happen at the end of the film.

Nevertheless, this movie is recommended for viewers looking to pass time.
