Not many actresses in Hollywood have earned appreciation of Olivia Colman. Since the 1990’s, Colman has become a feminist icon. Whether it’s political leaders, concerned daughters or chocolate inventors, Colman has portrayed many strong characters. Given the number of movies she has made, making a top 10 list isn’t easy. Nevertheless, listed below are my favourite films made by an actress that deserves to be celebrated.
1. The Favourite
Competitions cause friendships to deteriorate. Many years ago, my competition with a friend caused sorrow. I remember my friendship with a companion faced disaster when we competed to be the favourite student of a teacher. His jealousy whenever I achieved higher grades caused strong bonds to fade. Our competitive desires being the favourite student of a teacher caused friendships to face an ending that was destructive. Few films I’ve ever seen have captured negative consequences of competitions as powerfully as “The Favourite”. Released in 2018, Olivia Colman’s best movie captured competitions between women vying for affections of the queen in the 18th Century. In the greatest role of her career, Colman portrayed a majestic queen carrying a heavy burden to bear. This is the actress unlike you’ve ever seen her before: charming, emotional and vulnerable in her most memorable role. Colman has spent most of her career playing serious heroines in intense dramas. With “The Favourite”, however, the actress took steps out of her comfort zone by playing a legendary queen that’s well-known. Working alongside Rachel Weisz who is also amazing, Colman created a commemorated queen that’s compelling. For instance, the scene in which the Queen is caught having an extramarital affair with her servant Lady Sarah by Abigail causing despair is one of the finest moments of the actress’ career. Ultimately, what makes “The Favourite” Olivia Colman’s best movie is its universal appeal. The film delivers a universal message about the dangers of competition which would resonate with everyone. Despite its focus on royal women during the 18th Century, it tackles commemorated themes that everyone would relate to. Centuries after women engaged in threatening competitions to become the favourite mistresses of the Queen, it’s a breathtaking reminder of an actress that has manufactured commemorated movies which definitely deserve to be seen on the big-screen.

Agatha Christie is a legendary author whose literature my father always loved dearly. Several years ago, my father once adored Hercule Poirot.
