“Mirror Mirror” (2012) – Julia Roberts’ Satisfactory Remake of Snow White

Director: Tarsem Singh

Starring: Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, Lily Collins

‘Passable Entertainment’

“Mirror Mirror” is directed by Tarsem Singh. Its script is written by Melissa Wallack and Jason Keller. The screenplay is based off an original story by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. This film stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane, and Jordan Prentice. Its plot follows an evil queen (Julia Roberts), who steals control of a kingdom. An exiled princess (Lily Collins) enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright.

“Mirror Mirror” is a fresh and very charming look into the world of Snow White. Tarsem Singh handles it with a sense of knowledge of the subject, effective use of the cast, and undeniable visual effects. The visual effects in this film are stunning. Not only do the effects make this film look good, but they also grasp the viewer’s attention. Each shot is delicate and beautifully put together. Production and costume design is terrific; both of these departments owing much to the unforgettable visual effects.

Julia Roberts delivers a fine performance as the “evil queen”. Roberts carries this film through her sarcastic and quirky interpretation of a villain. This actress has tremendous screen presence and remains one of the major highlights of this film. Lily Collins is good as Snow White. Her acting is slightly weak, but she fits the character through her delicate looks. Armie Hammer is a handsome Prince, but like Collins, he is only passable in his acting. The rest of the cast including Nathan Lane, Jordan Prentice, and Mark Povinelli is good.

“Mirror Mirror” is an entertaining time pass. This isn’t by any means the best Snow White film; it’s just great fun for the whole family. Despite its poor script and predictable storyline, this is recommended generally for kids.
