2011 was a fantastic year for filmmaking. It isn’t easy come up with lists and I found it extremely hard to do so for the year 2011. If these films do not correspond with the ones you have, don’t seem surprised. This is just based on my opinion. If you’re a movie-buff, I would highly recommend checking these films out when you have the time.
1. The Artist- A wonderful tribute to classical Cinema. Jean Dujardin gives an outstanding performance as a troubled movie star and the chemistry between him and Benerice Bejo is magnificent. It’s not easy to make a black-and-white silent film after decades, but Michel Hazanavicius has created an unforgettable masterpiece. One of the best films of the last decade; this is an utterly flawless piece of work.
2. The Descendants– An example of fresh and engaging storytelling in combination with great direction and fantastic performances.
3. 50/50– Features one of the best performances of the year from Joseph Gordon-Levitt and also a realistic, moving, and funny storyline.

4. Moneyball– Brad Pitt is brilliant as a baseball manager and the script is outstanding.

5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2– An unforgettable end to a beloved franchise. It isn’t easy to end a decade-long franchise, but director David Yates has done it towards perfection.
6. Hugo– Director Martin Scorsese uses the 3D magnificently, the scenery is fabulous, and the storytelling is evocative.
7. The Ides of March– An intense, riveting, and gripping film. George Clooney directs the film with a stylish and often slick atmosphere. Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti, and Philip Seymour Hoffman deliver terrific performances.
8. Rise of the Planet of the Apes– Andy Serkis captures the expressions on the CGI ape Caesar beautifully. The film is also highly entertaining.

9. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol– One of the most entertaining films of the year. Tom Cruise is back in form after a long time and Brad Bird has executed the action sequences exceptionally.

10. Source Code– An intriguing, mind-bending, and highly original thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal gives a magnificent performance as a soldier named Colter Stevens.
11. Midnight in Paris– Woody Allen’s beautiful film works mainly because of the director’s astounding vision and a fabulous script.
12. X-Men: First Class– One of the best super-hero films of the year and a return to form for the X-men franchise. The performances are terrific, the direction is great, and the visual effects are accolade-worthy.
13. Warrior– A film that, excluding some poor direction, works because of excellent performances from Tom Hardy, Nick Nolte, and Joel Edgerton.
14. Rango– This flick is visually striking, features undeniable humor, and a great voice performance from Johnny Depp.
15. Kung Fu Panda 2– A surprisingly lavishing and fabulous follow-up to 2008’s hit. This is funnier and also emotionally balanced, unlike the first.
